Companies that allow you to pay bills online are adding security measures. I'm all for that. However, they're making it hard to login in the process. Let's examine this:
Several sites I use now ask a series of questions so that they can weed out criminals who are trying to impersonate you. The problem with this is that I myself may not know the answers to the questions. It isn't that they don't let you choose the questions: They do. You get to choose from a number of questions for the first one, and a different set for the second and third one. Should be simple, right? Well, not for weirdos. Here's the first set of choices for one I did tonight:
Alright, maybe I'm unusual, or maybe I'm just indecisive, but I don't have favorites.
I used to get stuck playing the "oldlywed" game at Christmas or New Year's parties,
and Jacque couldn't answer the questions about me because I couldn't answer
them myself. I remember one particularly embarrassing event where Jacque was
asked who my favorite actress was. From the reaction when it came time to get
my answer, it was clear that it had consumed a great deal of time when
she tried to answer it. The only valid answer would have been "Alan doesn't
really even know the names of anyone in movies or television." I might remember
a few names if prompted, but really, favorites? One actor/actress is as good
as another. I'm more interested in the movie itself, but even then I can't guarantee
that I'll remember the title.
So, the questions on the website: Favorite person from history? I like history, but I haven't chosen a favorite person, and I see no need to.
Hobby? Does paying bills count as a hobby?
Favorite city -- good thing they ruled out Baytown for me!
Fictional character? Uh, what's that character's name from that book, you know the one I'm talking about? Me either.
Place to go on my ideal vacation. How about going to bed?
Childhood best friend? There were several kids we hung around with, but I wasn't bonded to anyone except maybe my brother.
Soy un perdedor.
