You need to have a cup before you do anything complicated.

Got a cool new coffeemaker. Like all cool coffeemakers, it allows you to get a cup of coffee before it's finished brewing. After all, if you didn't need caffeine now you wouldn't be making a pot of coffee.

This one is special, not because it doesn't have a warmer, but is really a thermos; no it's special because it's CHROME.

So this morning I got up early (9:00 a.m. on Saturday is early) and was going to make the church website look a little better, as it was starting to get cluttered. Can't do that without coffee.

I ate breakfast first (bowl of Raisin Bran Crunch, yum) and poured some filtered water into the maker. Put the coffee into the filter. Start brewing.

Then I got on the computer and checked my email, etc, until I really had to have the coffee. Went back in the kitchen.

Notice in the list above that nowhere do I mention putting the lid on the carafe. If you don't put the lid on the carafe, the valve on the filter basket stays closed... it thinks you are getting a cup of coffee, and it wouldn't want to drip all over the machine.

So nothing went in the carafe. The filter basket tried to hold it, but it won't hold 6 cups. Best guess is that three cups were on the cabinet. It took me at least 15 minutes to clean up the mess. I probably could have cleaned it up in 5, but I hadn't had any coffee yet.
